A group of three Western Pennsylvania ski resorts has been sold to a Colorado-based ski company.
In an announcement on Wednesday, Seven Springs Mountain Resort, Hidden Valley Mountain Resort and Laurel Mountain Ski Area were sold to Vail Resorts. The three resorts were owned by the Nutting family, with Pirates Owner Bob Nutting serving as CEO and President. Seven Springs was purchased by the Nuttings in 2006. Hidden Valley was purchased in 2013, and an agreement to bring back operations to the Laurel Mountain Ski Area in 2016. In a statement, Nutting called the resorts “a part of the fabric of this region and a critical community asset.”
The Nutting family will still own the Seven Springs sporting clays and golf course, Hidden Valley golf club, Highlands Market and some local real estate with the potential for local development.
Vail Resorts owns 37 ski resorts. The three recent acquisitions would make eight total resorts for the company in Pennsylvania.
