Fresh off the 15-day injured list, Quinn Priester spun six quality innings of relief against a hot Milwaukee lineup last night, and the Pirates’ bats accounted for five home runs in a 12-2 win over the Brewers.
Joe Block has the story.
Manager Derek Shelton said the Pirates never took their foot off the gas on offense.
Shelton commended Quinn Priester for turning in a strong outing right after being activated from the IL.
Shelton also praised catcher Joey Bart, who hit his second grand slam of the season last night. He said Bart is living up to his potential.
The Pirates look for their third straight win tonight. LHP Martin Perez starts for the Pirates. He’s 1-4 with a 4.85 ERA. RHP Tobias Myers goes for Milwaukee. He’s 4-3 with a 3.52 ERA. It’s a 7:45 airtime, 8:10 first pitch on WCCS.
In addition to activating Priester from the injured list, the Pirates made several roster moves before yesterday’s game, optioning outfielder Edward Olivares to Triple-A Indianapolis, transferring the rehab assignments of relievers David Bednar and Ryan Borucki to Double-A Altoona, and outrighting lefty Justin Bruihl to Triple-A after he cleared waivers.
Director of Sports Medicine Todd Tomczyk said the reason for Bednar and Borucki finishing rehab in Altoona was due to the threat of inclement weather this week in Indianapolis.
