Mark Whipple, 64, had been the Panthers offensive coordinator for the past three seasons.
His tutelage helped make Kenny Pickett a Heisman Trophy finalist this past year and allowed Pitt to score an average of 43 points a game- the second highest scoring offense in the Power Five this season- in route to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship.
Whipple, who made less than $500,000 this season, reportedly met with Nebraska on Sunday about their offensive coordinator opening.
Possible replacements include Pitt wide receivers coach Brennan Marion and tight ends coach Tim Salem- both of whom have coordinator experience.
Whipple will not be on the sidelines when the Panthers play Michigan State on December 30 in the Peach Bowl.
Narduzzi released a statement on Whipple stating, “He did a tremendous job transitioning us from a heavy run attack to one of the best passing games in the entire country… I am very grateful for Mark’s time in Pittsburgh, both personally as well as professionally, and I wish him and his family the very best moving forward.”
