UPDATE: A family was displaced by a fire on Thursday in Shelocta.
Indiana, Creekside, and Elderton fire departments were dispatched at 5:58 PM for the structure fire call on Shelocta Road in Armstrong Township. Creekside fire officials said on the department’s Facebook page that flames were seen coming out of the top of the building when crews arrived.
The building was gutted. There were no reported injuries. The family, who was not named in the report, is being assisted by both the American Red Cross and nearby relatives.
WHAT WE FIRST REPORTED
The Independence Day holiday turned into a busy day for Indiana County first responders.
A brush fire was reported at 1:26 AM on Thursday on Route 286 West in Young Township, marking the 32nd brush fire call the county received this year. Iselin-West Lebanon firefighters were called out for the fire.
Two structure fires were reported on Thursday. The first was in Jefferson County as Rossiter fire department was called to assist with a fire on Orvetta Street in Punxsutawney at 3:25 AM. Multiple fire companies were called out to a fire at a shed and a mobile home. No injuries were reported.
The other structure fire was at 5:58 PM on Shelocta Road in Armstrong Township. Elderton, Indiana and Creekside fire departments were dispatched along with Citizens Ambulance and the HazMat Team. Details on that fire have not been released yet.
A vehicle accident was also reported yesterday morning. Saltsburg fire department, Lifestat Ambulance and state police were sent to Canal Street at 9:23 AM for that reported crash.
And the heavy storm that rolled through last night also triggered some calls. Two lines-down calls were reported in White Township, both in the area of East Oak Street at 8:39 and at 9:03 PM. Indiana and Creekside fire companies were dispatched. Iselin-West Lebanon firefighters were dispatched for a basement-pumping detail on Coleman Road in Young Township.
