As courts resume activity after the Independence Day holiday, several criminal call hearings are on the schedule.
Among the hearings on the schedule today is one for William Alan Piper who is charged with two counts of sexual assault and indecent assault of someone under the age of 13. Charges were connected to an incident on New Year’s Day in 2001. Piper also has a record in Armstrong County, where he pleaded guilty to three counts of endangering the welfare of a child and a single count of indecent assault of someone under 13 years of age. Those charges stem from an incident in Dayton.
Also due for criminal call hearings today are Phillip and Melanie Ann Barrett of Robinson, who each face three counts each of child endangerment and reckless endangerment.
Criminal Call is designed to update the court and the parties involved on the progress of a case. Proceedings are usually postponed to a later date, but on occasion, guilty pleas have been entered at the Criminal Call phase.
