The Pirates fell to 9.5 games behind first-place Chicago with a 4-1 loss to the Cubs on Tuesday night.
Pirates starter Chad Kuhl (6-10) gave up three runs in the sixth inning. John Jaso led the Pirates with two hits, including his ninth home run in the seventh inning for the Pirates’ lone run.
The Pirates try to salvage one game of their three-game set with the Cubs Wednesday at 8:05 pm.
