After blasting Wake Forest Saturday night to win the ACC championship, the Pitt Panthers accepted an invitation yesterday to play Michigan State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on December 30th.
The Panthers are 11-2 and the Spartans 10-2. The two schools have played football against each other seven times, and Michigan State has dominated, going 6-0-1. It will be their first matchup since 2007, when the Spartans won, 17-13.
Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi spent eight years as an assistant coach at Michigan State. He says it will be a great game.
Narduzzi says the Panthers will be businesslike in their approach to the game.
Both Pitt and Michigan State will be playing in the Peach Bowl for the first time.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
The college football playoff matchups are set. Top-ranked Alabama will play number four Cincinnati in the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Eve and second-ranked Michigan will play third-ranked Georgia in the Orange Bowl in the other semifinal.
Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables was hired to coach the Oklahoma Sooners yesterday. He was a long-time assistant coach under Bob Stoops at Oklahoma before joining Clemson in 2012.
