IUP has received $217,997 to provide financial support to students committed to becoming nurse educators.
The grant comes from the federal Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration. The nursing loan forgiveness program provides forgiveness for up to 85% of loans borrowed through the program for students in the master’s and doctoral nursing programs that plan to become nurse educators at an accredited school of nursing or a clinical educator at an accredited health facility for four years after graduation. This marks the second straight year that IUP has received funding from the program. IUP Professor and doctoral program coordinator in the school’s Department of Nursing and Allied Health Dr. Kristy Chunta said in a news release that there was a great response to the program last year, saying that it will continue to be a great opportunity for students to become nurse educators and fill gaps in the workforce.
So far, 17 students at IUP have committed to the program.
