Fresh off a win over Vancouver Saturday night, the Penguins play the NHL’s newest team, the Seattle Kraken for the first time ever tonight. It will be the fourth game of a five-game road trip. After traveling through the northwest, the Penguins return to the East Coast for a Friday night game against the Capitals in Washington, D.C.
Coach Mike Sullivan says even though they’ve never played Seattle before, they have a pretty good idea of what they’ll be facing.
Sullivan has a do-everything type of player in Evan Rodrigues, who is currently skating on the top line with Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel while Byran Rust recovers from a lower body injury. The coach says Rodrigues has a great mindset for playing different roles in the Pens’ lineup.
The Penguins are 8-2 all time in their first meeting against an expansion team, but they have lost the last two, to Minnesota in 2001 and to Vegas in 2017.
Sullivan says Evgeni Malkin’s recovery from knee surgery continues to be on track. Malkin has not played yet this season after the surgery in June. He is practicing with the team now, but had a scheduled day off yesterday.
Faceoff tonight in Seattle is shortly after 10 PM. The airtime is 9 o’clock on 92.5 FM U92.
