An mlb.com poll of 39 experts puts Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes in the lead in the voting for National League Rookie of the Year. Skenes was not even rated in May, not having made his Major league debut yet. He vaulted to number three in the June poll. At 4-0 with a 2.06 ERA in nine starts, he got thirty first place votes, leading Padres centerfielder Jackson Merrill, who had two votes, Cubs pitcher Shota Imanaga (two votes), Brewers shortstop Joey Ortiz (three votes), and Dodgers pitcher Gavin Stone. Among others receiving votes was Pirates pitcher Jared Jones.
In the American League, the favorites for Rookie of the Year at the midway point of the season are Yankees pitcher Luis Gil, A’s pitcher Mason Miller, Orioles centerfielder Colton Cowser, Red Sox right fielder Wilyer Abreu, and Rangers outfielder Wyatt Langford.
