It was a heartbreaker for the Pitt Panthers basketball team as they lost to the Virginia Cavaliers 57-56 in the ACC opener for both teams.
The Panthers were without Sophomore Guard Femi Odukale, and late in the game, actually lead. But in the waning seconds of the game, Pitt blew a four-point lead when Cavs guard Jayden Gardner hit a lay-up and got the and-one free throw to make it a one point game. Pitt then turned the ball over on a five second violation after they couldn’t inbound the ball. Gardner got a rebound with less than five seconds left to get the win.
John Hughley lead all Panthers with 12 points and 3 rebounds. Jamarius Burton had 11 points and 3 boards.
Pitt’s next game is next Thursday against Colgate.
