The Pirates came close but were unable to complete the comeback against the St. Louis Cardinals, losing 11-10 last night.
After amassing an 11-3 lead, the Pirates offense came to life in the bottom of the 8th, notching five runs to make it 11-8. In the 9th, the Pirates held the Cardinals off the board, but only mustered 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th. After the Pirates forced a bases-loaded walk to add a run to the board, a grand-slam opportunity for David Freese turned into a sac-fly that scored only one run.
The Pirates and Cardinals play this afternoon starting at 3:40 on WCCS.
