Police in Westmoreland County have charged a Blairsville man with leading them on a chase that resulted in a crash with his truck and a police cruiser on Monday.
Ligonier Valley police charged 28-year-old Travis Repinski with aggravated assault, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, fleeing police, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, and weapons and traffic-related violations. Police were dispatched to McCurdy Trail in Ligonier Township as Repinski was seen stealing diesel fuel from PennDOT vehicles, and when they arrived, they saw a pickup truck matching a description they received leaving the area and going onto Route 259. Police tried to pull him over, but were unable to and a chase ensued, going onto Matson Road and then down an embankment before getting back onto Route 259, where he collided with a responding police car. Repinski tried to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended. He also tried to escape when he was taken to an area hospital for treatment, hurting a nurse and an officer in the process. Police found several firearms in the truck.
Repinski was taken to Westmoreland County Prison as he was unable to post 10 percent of his $250,000 bail. A preliminary hearing in Westmoreland County Court is set for June 28th.
