Today is expected to be a major travel day for the Thanksgiving holiday, and State Police are reminding drivers that they won’t be the only ones out of the road over the next few days.
State police will be out across the region in marked and unmarked cars and in some areas of the state, marked motorcycles to make sure that the roads remain safe. As part of that, drivers are reminded to remain sober while behind the wheel. Troopers will be watching for distracted, aggressive and intoxicated drivers throughout the weekend.
Troopers are also taking part in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Click it or Ticket” campaign through this Sunday. With vehicle crashes being one of the leading causes of death, most of those deaths are being attributed to people not wearing their seat belt. Troopers will be looking out for drivers and front seat passengers wearing their seat belt, and the proper use of child safety seats.
Drivers are also reminded of the state’s “Move Over” law, which requires drivers to move one lane over or slow down when they encounter an emergency scene, traffic stop or disabled vehicle. Failure to do so could result in fines and possibly a license suspension.
