On the field at PNC Park last night, the Pirates and Reds staged a pitchers’ duel, and the longball made the difference. Joe Block has the story.
The rubber game of the series is this afternoon. It promises to be a great pitching matchup of the Bucs’ Mitch Keller [8-4, 3.36 ERA] and the Reds’ Hunter Greene [5-2, 3.61 ERA]. Airtime is 12:10, with first pitch at 12:35 on WCCS.
Injured pitchers Marco Gonzalez and Ryan Borucki each threw 30-pitch bullpen sessions yesterday, while Martín Perez threw live batting practice on Monday. Quinn Priester is also throwing again and all four pitchers report no problems as they work their way back to action. Perez, Gonzalez, and Borucki are scheduled to throw again on Friday, with Perez tossing a simulated game and Gonzalez and Borucki pitching live BP.
ALTOONA CURVE
Altoona opened its series in Bowie with a 3-2 loss to the Baysox. The Curve managed only three hits. Po Yu Chen took the loss, going six innings and giving up all three Bowie runs, two earned, on seven hits and two walks.
Drake Fellows gets the start for the Curve in Game Two of the series tonight.
