After two straight shutout wins in Canada, the Penguins conclude their trip north of the border tonight at Winnipeg.
Goaltender Tristan Jarry has helped the Penguins turn around after two dismal games two weekends ago. They allowed six goals to Ottawa November 13th with Casey DeSmith in goal and six more the next night in Washington with Jarry in the net. Since that time, Jarry has allowed only a two-goal night to Buffalo in a loss, and now has two straight shutouts, over Montreal and Toronto. He has not allowed a goal in the last 151 minutes and 6 seconds, the second-longest streak in the NHL this season.
Coach Mike Sullivan says Jarry has been able to stay sharp mentally and focus on the game.
The puck drops shortly after 8:30 tonight. The pregame begins at 7:30 on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel.
The NHL season will be interrupted in February when the Winter Olympics are staged in Beijing. The international situation is problematic right now and there is talk of either a diplomatic boycott by the U.S. and maybe even of an athletic boycott. As of now, though, plans are for the NHL to shut down from February 5th to the 22nd.
Sidney Crosby of the Penguins is scheduled to play for Team Canada, where he is already an Olympic legend. Crosby scored the “Golden Goal”, the overtime gold-medal winning goal against the United States in Vancouver in 2010.
Crosby says younger hockey players will quickly grasp how special the Olympics are.
In his career, Crosby has won three Stanley Cups and two Olympic gold medals.
