Sophomore point guard Maria Cerro scored 23 points to lead IUP to a 63-53 win over the University of the District of Columbia yesterday at the KCAC.
The Crimson Hawks had to overcome some foul trouble and they turned the ball over 21 times, but the defense held DC to 22.6 percent from the floor, including 3-of-17 on three-pointers. IUP led by 17 in the third quarter before DC cut it to six, but the Crimson Hawks responded with a 10-2 run.
Justina Mascara scored 10 points for IUP. Maura D’Anna had eight points, nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
IUP is 4-0 and will host Salem on Wednesday at 3 PM at the KCAC.
MEN
Coming off a 90-83 win over Bowie State on Friday night, the IUP men are 4-0. They will next play Virginia State on Saturday and Salem on Sunday in the IUP Thanksgiving Classic at the KCAC.
