Indiana County and the surrounding areas will see the first instance of summer-like weather next week and it could bring very dry conditions that are ripe for brush fires.
Accuweather expects most of the northeastern U.S. to approach 100 degrees Fahrenheit next week, even eclipsing it in some areas. Along with that, skies are expected to stay clear over the next seven days or more, which could bring very dry conditions. Meteorologists are also concerned that the high pressure could bring a dangerous heatwave for those states, including Pennsylvania.
The peak of the heat wave is expected to take place Thursday around 5 p.m.
Ron Moreau with the Indiana Fire Association advises against burning garbage or lawn trimmings, as those types of fires can get out of hand quickly and make it difficult for understaffed fire departments.
With the heat, residents may think about breaking out fans or air conditioners. Moreau says to use reliable accessories or plug them into a wall receptacle directly.
Other things to keep in mind are to watch children playing while the weather is nice as it increases the chances of pedestrian-related crashes, and to be mindful when grilling or setting off fireworks. Moreau said the best practice is keeping grills away from the siding of homes and to ensure any fireworks are away from flammable objects.
