The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency recently awarded several grants geared towards preserving historic sites and housing, and a portion of that money is coming to Indiana County.
State Representative Jim Struzzi and Senator Joe Pittman announced that Indiana County received $210,000 in funding for housing and historic preservation from the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement grant.
The Indiana County Office of Planning and Development received $200,000 to assist low-income homeowners aged 55 years or older with the replacement of inoperable, unsafe or inefficient furnaces and/or severely leaking and damaged roofing systems.
Indiana Borough’s Planning Commission received a $10,000 Keystone Historic Preservation Planning Grant, awarded by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission for the surveying of the downtown district. This will evaluate historic and cultural buildings in preparation for submission to the National Register of Historic Places, which will give recognition to the Indiana Borough Historic District.
