A Blairsville man is in custody following a stand-off Thursday morning in Westmoreland County.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, state police from the Kiski Valley barracks were summoned to 841 Pizza Barn Road around 8 o’clock Wednesday evening after 42-year-old Benjamin Travis Clawson allegedly threatened two people, one being his grandmother, saying he would burn their house down. Troopers then saw Clawson grab a metal pipe and run towards one of the residents and when they tried to intervene, he ran into the home and barricaded himself inside.
Troopers spoke with Clawson’s aunt, who was called during the incident, and she said she received a call from her mother requesting her to come help with Clawson who was acting “extremely erratic.”
Clawson was eventually apprehended and charged with terroristic threats and simple assault. He was placed in Westmoreland County Prison and bail was set at $1,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 26th at 11 AM. Clawson will also undergo a mental health evaluation.
