Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says getting the team back for a second day of minicamp yesterday enabled him to zero in on situational football and gain a measure of his team’s ability to handle the workload.
Everybody was there yesterday, but running back Najee Harris did not participate, with Tomlin saying he has no injury concerns. Cam Heyward also sat out.
Tomlin appreciated the routine of the practice session.
The coach talked about working with new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, the former Falcons head coach. He admires Smith’s approach.
Tomlin says he is not worried about the competition between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, and he’s not concerned about Fields being a team leader, either.
Still exploring new depth on the defensive line, the Steelers have had former Titans D-lineman Jayden Peevy trying out in minicamp this week. Peevy was an undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M in 2022 before signing with Tennessee. He has played in two regular season games and spent time on the practice squads of the Panthers and Browns after his mid-season release last year.
