At their meeting Wednesday night, the Penns Manor School Board approved next year’s budget and it contains no tax increase for district residents.
The budget comes out to $19,960,179 in expenses and $19,536,504 in revenues, resulting in a deficit of $423,675, which is slightly higher than when the budget was first advertised back in May. The district will use general fund balance money to cover the deficit and property taxes will not be raised.
Superintendent Daren Johnston said an increase in medical insurance led to the bigger deficit.
In other business, the board approved opting into the community eligibility program, which will provide free lunches for students. Johnston said any past debt will need to be paid before free lunches are provided and they still want residents to fill out free and reduced lunch forms as it helps with district data.
Johnston also recognized senior Alex Polenik for earning the gold medal in the PIAA 2A mens’ discus championships, as well as the silver medal in shotput. Polenik was presented with a certificate and a cake by the board.
