One person was killed in a crash Wednesday morning in Armstrong Township.
State police say two cars collided head-on along Route 422 around 11 AM, approximately one-tenth of a mile west of the North and South Ridge Road intersection. A 2012 Volkswagon Jetta attempted to turn onto Route 422 from a driveway along the southbound lane when it was hit by a 2004 Honda Civic that was driving east. It drove across the center turn lane and into the westbound lane of 422 before striking a guide rail.
Both cars had to be towed from the scene.
The driver of the Jetta, identified only as an adult woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Their identity is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
The other driver, a 26-year-old woman from Shelocta, was flown to Allegheny General Hospital. An infant that was in the car at the time was secured in a rear-facing child safety seat and flown to UPMC Children’s Hospital for treatment. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
Elderton and Indiana firefighters, the Indiana County Coroner’s Office and PennDOT were also called out to the scene. State police are continuing to investigate.
