The Penguins have lost eight of their last ten games as they travel to Montreal tonight to take on the Canadiens. The Pens are 5-6-4 and have just fourteen points. Montreal is in a similar situation. They lost their first five games, and have won just four times, with only ten points so far this season.
Coach Mike Sullivan will not accompany the team across the border tonight because Canadian law prevents anyone who has tested positive for covid-19 from entering the country.
Sullivan will watch from home as the Penguins take the ice in Montreal. He and the team worked on the power play extensively yesterday in practice in Cranberry. The coach is convinced that they are on the track and doing what’s necessary to score goals. It just hasn’t happened yet, with only three power plays so far this season.
Sullivan had an update yesterday on Evgeni Malkin, who continues his rehab from offseason knee surgery. He says the trainers have a very specific schedule for the veteran winger and he is following it and looking terrific.
Sullivan switched up the third and fourth lines yesterday, but that doesn’t mean a whole lot. The third line was Evan Rodrigues centering Danton Heinen and Dominik Simon, with the Teddy Bleuger line, with Zach Aston-Reese and Brock McGinn skating on the fourth line.
