State lawmakers are introducing new legislation with the goal of making Pennsylvania hospitals more transparent with their charges, and residents are urged to give their personal experiences to help give them a better understanding of those charges.
House Bill 2339 would require hospitals to give advanced notice of what lawmakers are calling “facility fees,” which range anywhere from a few dollars to $1,000 charged to patients when they receive care in a doctor’s office, surgery center, urgent care, or hospital-owned clinic. These are not typically covered by insurance, and patients often do not know in advance that they will receive this fee or how much it will cost.
Officials with the Pennsylvania Health Access Network encourage any state resident that received this type of fee to share their experience. You can do so using the link here.
