IUP has announced that their interim leader of the Department of Public Safety and the University Police is retiring.
Anthony Clement has been serving as the interim director of the department since February of 2020. He had served 35 years in law enforcement before joining IUP, which included 33 years as a member of the Indiana Borough Police Department. In a statement, Clement said that he appreciated the loyalty and support from the officers that he has worked with over the last 21 months. Clement’s retirement goes into effect on November 24th, the day before Thanksgiving. On the 25th, Douglas Campbell will take over the position. He is a lieutenant of criminal investigations in the department, and received his bachelor’s degree in Criminology in May of 1994, following that up with graduation from the Criminal Justice Training Department six months later. This will mark the second time that Campbell will take over as interim director, with the first time between September 2014 and August 2015.
Campbell will hold the position on an interim basis until a national search is completed for someone to take over the position. That search is expected to end before the 2022-2023 academic year gets underway.
