With incidents of unemployment compensation fraud on the rise, the state treasurer’s office is warning of yet another scam, this one using text messages.
Treasurer Stacy Garrity says people are getting texts telling them things like their “state-issued ReliaCard account has been temporarily frozen,” and that they need to click on a link to verify their identity and card status.
Garrity advises that you do not click on the link. Neither her office nor the Department of Labor & Industry ever embed a link in a text message. She furthers advises that you should never provide any personal information, user IDs, or passwords unless directly told to by someone you have contacted at the agency.
