The average cost of a gallon of gas across the nation is going down, but Pennsylvania’s average continues to go up.
According to Triple A, drivers are paying $3.41 a gallon on average across the United States for gasoline. The nationwide dip is due to a drop in both gasoline supply stocks and demand. Total domestic stocks went down by 1.6 million barrels over the last week, and demand went down by 240,000 barrels a day from 9.5 million barrels a day to 9.26 million barrels a day. While it has contributed to some of the relief at the pump, prices are likely to remain high as crude oil prices remain above $80 a barrel.
In Pennsylvania, the average cost of a gallon of gas remains high at $3.60 a gallon. This is an increase of three cents over last week, and 16 cents over the last month. Gas prices last year at this time were $2.47 a gallon due to a lack of demand from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Indiana County’s average is now $3.56 a gallon. The lowest county-wide average in the region is Armstrong County at $3.53 a gallon, and it also happens to be the lowest average in the state. Westmoreland County’s average is $3.54 a gallon.
