Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said yesterday that an MRI was being performed on wide receiver Chase Claypool’s toe, which he injured Monday night in the win over Chicago.
With practices beginning today for Sunday’s game against Detroit, Tomlin said defensive end Cam Heyward and linebacker Robert Spillane are dealing with ankle injuries and defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs has a bad hip.
Tight end Eric Ebron could be back on the practice field today after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury.
Speaking of the heroics of kicker Chris Boswell in Monday night’s win over the Bears, Tomlin said it’s a reflection of the type of player Boswell is. Boswell kicked field goals of 52 and 54 yards prior to his game-winning field goal from 40 yards out. He also recovered a Bears fumble on a kickoff.
Tomlin says the Steelers are aware that Detroit will challenge them.
The coach says one of the factors in the game could be the long layoff for the Lions and the Steelers having just played on Monday.
Tomlin also expressed again his dissatisfaction with Ray-Ray McCloud’s fumble on a return, the second time in two weeks he has fumbled and the third time this season. The coach also said there may be changes in the offensive line, including the long-awaited return of tackle Zach Banner, after the run game stalled and Ben Roethlisberger was sacked a season-high four times on Monday.
