Catcher Jacob Stallings has won the first Gold Glove award for fielding excellence by a Pittsburgh Pirate since Corey Dickerson won it in 2018, and he’s the first Pirates catcher to win the honor since Mike Lavalliere did it in 1987.
Stallings is the third Pirates catcher to win the honor overall. Tony Pena did it three years in a row from 1983 to 1985.
The Pirates made the fewest errors of any team in Major League Baseball in 2021 and three had final finalists for the Gold Glove, including Bryan Reynolds and Kevin Newman.
Stallings was the only catcher that wasn’t charged with a passed ball in 2021.
