Pennsylvania may be getting another big name added to the race for governor next year. Republican Senate President Pro Tem Jake Corman has scheduled a “special announcement” this coming Thursday in his hometown of Bellefonte at which he is expected to join a crowded field of contenders for the GOP nomination.
At least 10 candidates are running or have signaled that they will run for the Republican nomination. The frontrunner so far has been former Congressman Lou Barletta. Corman has served in the State Senate since 1999, succeeding his father in the 34th District, which is centered around State College.
The only declared Democratic candidate so far is state Attorney General Josh Shapiro.
