Indiana County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate went down one-tenth of a percentage point during the month of April.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry reported that Indiana County’s unemployment rate was four percent in April, which is higher than last year at this time, when it was 3.9 percent. Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate went unchanged over the month at 3.4 percent, while the national unemployment rate increased by one-tenth of a point to 3.9 percent.
In the six-county region, Indiana is tied with Cambria County for the highest unemployment rate at 3.9 percent. Westmoreland County is the lowest at 3.4 percent, followed by Clearfield County at 3.5 percent, and Armstrong and Jefferson counties at 3.7 percent.
Total non-farm jobs went up 300 over the month to 29,900. The biggest jump was in the service industry which went up 200. The county’s civilian labor force remained the same at 37,000.
