Over the last year, the Pennsylvania Game Commission has intensely collected deer samples to monitor the spread of Chronic Waste Disease (CWD) across the state. In its latest report, deer harvested in Indiana County reported no traces of the disease.
More than 11,000 total samples were collected from deer across the state, with more than 7,000 hunter-harvested samples making up the bulk of them. Of those deer, 440 tested positive for CWD, which is up 14 from the year before. Most of the infected deer came from portions of Bedford, Blair, Franklin, Fulton, and Huntingdon counties.
Approximately 550 samples were collected from Indiana County with none yielding positive CWD results. Neighboring Cambria, Jefferson and Westmoreland Counties also saw no cases of CWD in samples collected, however, Clearfield and Armstrong Counties reported one detection each.
Across the six-county region, more than 2,550 deer samples were collected.
