Pitt’s rebuilt basketball team saw its first action last night with a preseason victory over the PSAC West’s Gannon. Pitt won, 89-64 as sophomore guard Femi Odukale scored 20 points and transfer Mouhamadou Gueye scored 17, with 10 rebounds and four blocked shots.
Pitt senior guard Nike Sibande injured his knee in the game and hobbled off the court. Capel said he banged knee-on-knee with another player and then later it gave out on him. Pitt has already lost guard Jamarius Burton to a knee procedure that will jeep him out four to six weeks.
Capel said Gannon was a pretty good test for his Panthers.
Ike Herster led Gannon with 11 points. The Golden Knights do not play IUP until January 15th.
