The Pirates Double-A affiliate Altoona Curve notched a victory over the Akron Rubber Ducks 6-5 on Friday night. Shortstop Kevin Newman improved his batting average, going 3-5 with two doubles. Jerrick Suttor, the DH, was 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and third baseman Wyatt Mathisen was 3-4 with an RBI of his own. Casey Sadler picked up his first win of the season, going 2 and a thirds innings, allowing 1 run on two hits, and striking out three. Starter Cody Dickson got a no-decision, lasting only 3 and 2/3rds innings, giving up two runs on eight hits, with two walks and three strikeouts. The Curve and the Ducks continue play tonight in Akron.
Meanwhile in Indianapolis, Starling Marte continues his rehab stint with the Indianapolis Indians, and improved significantly. He had two hits, scored two runs and stole a base in the Indians’ 6-4 win over Gwinnett. The two teams play again tonight.
