State police have charged an inmate at the county jail with institutional vandalism. Troopers say on Tuesday, 28-year-old Khalil Santella was in his cell at the jail and allegedly damaged the sprinkler system in his cell, causing permanent damage to the sprinkler, valued at $84, and the mattress inside his cell, which cost $119. The Latrobe man was in jail awaiting a preliminary hearing on DUI and drug charges that were filed on May 17th.

Charges are forthcoming in a case of suspected DUI in nearby Jefferson County. The incident happened on April 20th in the 800 block of Main Street Extension in Punxsutawney, as police conducted a vehicle stop after seeing numerous moving violations. The suspect, identified only as a 77-year-old Indiana man, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and arrested on suspicion of DUI. He submitted to a chemical test and charges are forthcoming.
