The IUP men’s and women’s swimming programs have each been received Scholar All-America recognition from the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), as it was recently announced.
A total of 720 teams, representing 443 institutions, achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the spring semester of 2017 to earn the academic distinction. Teams were chosen from schools in NCAA Division I, II, and III, the NAIA, and junior colleges.
The men’s program finished with a 3.02 grade point average, one of 46 NCAA Division II men’s teams to break the 3.0 barrier. The IUP women finished with a 3.42 GPA, one of 75 women’s teams at the Division II level.
Otwell and Long named honorable mention Scholar All-Americans
In addition to the team awards, sophomores Bria Otwell and Colter Long were named honorable mention Scholar All-Americans by the CSCAA.
Otwell posted a 3.52 grade point average during her spring semester, while Long boasted a 3.93 grade point average in the spring.
In addition to the 997 first-team selections, 954 students were named as Honorable Mentioned selections. These students have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a “B” time standard or competed at a regional or zone qualifying meet. First team selections had at least a 3.50 GPA and competed at their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
