An Indiana County woman was sentenced to probation for a guilty plea to her part in a string of catalytic converter thefts between September and November of 2022.
Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Mears ordered Debbra Lynn McAdams of Homer City to serve seven years of probation, including 33 months of house arrest. Police say that McAdams was the ringleader in the string of nearly $140,000 worth of equipment stolen from vehicles in Indiana and Westmoreland Counties. Prosecutors had proposed a two-to-four year prison sentence, but Mears said that because McAdams was caring for three adopted children, ranging in ages from four to 11 years, and there are no other family members who can care for the children, that the need to make sure the children were taken care of outweighed the need to incarcerate her.
McAdams and co-conspirators William Glover of New Florence, Vince Skillings of Jeannette and Steven Aukerman of Blairsville were charged in connection with stealing over $140,000 in equipment. Glover and Aukerman were sentenced to serve up to 23 months in jail along with five years of probation. The case against Skillings is pending.
