The Steelers open the Organized Team Activities, the voluntary “OTAs” today at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. There will be three sessions this week – today, tomorrow, and Thursday, before they return for three more next week, then the final four June 3rd through the 6th.
NFL rules allow for 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills, but with no contact and no pads.
Defensive lineman (and captain) Cam Heyward will not be there, he says, and it’s directly related to his contract status. Heyward is entering the final year of his current deal and wants a three-year extension. He is also coming off an offseason surgical procedure to “clean up” some issues after having had in-season groin surgery that caused him to miss six games last year.
