The Pirates lost to San Francisco, 2-1, in 11 innings Saturday at PNC Park.
With two outs and runners on the corners in the 11th inning, Pirates reliever Daniel Hudson tossed a full-count slider to Buster Posey that slipped past catcher Elias Diaz, allowing the Giants’ Denard Span to score from third with what would be the winning run.
Pirates starter Chad Kuhl flirted with a no-hitter before he allowed a home run in the sixth inning. Kuhl still completed six innings for the first time since April 18, limiting the Giants to two hits on 75 pitches. He pitched five or fewer innings in each of his previous 12 starts, one start short of tying a Pirates record.
The Pirates stranded 15 runners.
