IUP baseball completed a perfect run through the Atlantic Region One Tournament yesterday with a tense 2-1 win over Charleston and will play PSAC rival Seton Hill this coming weekend in a three-game series in the NCAA Super Regionals.
Ricardo Aponte clubbed a solo home run in the top of the 10th inning and Jimmy Tooley finished up six scoreless innings of relief in the bottom of the 10th to get the win. Tooley struck out 6 and walked 1 after replacing Jason Madrak, who went the first 4-plus innings, giving up one run.
Davin Landers drove in a run with a base hit in the fourth for IUP, one of his two hits on the afternoon.
IUP beat Charleston twice in the tournament, and topped West Chester on Friday. Saturday’s games were rained out at West Chester.
Seton Hill beat Millersville, lost to East Stroudsburg, then fought back through the losers bracket to beat Millersville again before sweeping two from East Stroudsburg yesterday.
IUP will be the host for the Super Regional. There will be a single game on Friday and two, if necessary, on Saturday.
IUP beat Seton Hill three of the four times they played this season.
