It sure looked like number-87 was ready to play hockey yesterday. Sidney Crosby skated on the top line and the first power play unit at Penguins practice. Coach Mike Sullivan, however, would only say that Crosby’s status is “day-to-day” for his return from wrist surgery eight weeks ago.
The Penguins play the Calgary Flames tonight at PPG Paint Arena.
Sullivan stopped short of saying Crosby will be back tonight.
Sullivan said it was exciting to see Crosby back in his normal position on the top line, and to see how excited his teammates were.
When Crosby returns, and when center Jeff Carter returns from the covid-19 list, which could be before the end of this week, Sullivan will have some lineup decisions to make. Those decisions will only get tougher when Evgeni Malkin is ready to go in another six weeks or so.
The Penguins and the Flames face off at 7 o’clock tonight. The pregame airs at 6 on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel.
