The Wolf administration has announced the awarding of ten Walkworks grants to projects in six counties, with three of those projects in Indiana County.
In a news release, it was announced that a $20,000 Walkworks grant will go to Indiana Borough, with a further $16,500 going to the county and another $5000 going to White Township. The money will be used to assist the development of active transportation plans and policies to increase physical activity options. Over the next year, the three municipal governments along with others in Allegheny, Berks, Lancaster, Montgomery and Susquehanna Counties will work with professional transportation and community planners to collect data, assess current conditions and aspirations, and incorporate public input to craft Active Transportation Plans designed to point a course to new and improved bike, pedestrian and transit networks.
The grant recipients were selected from a review team that included representatives from the state departments of Health, Transportation, Conservation and Natural Resources, Community and Economic Development and the Pennsylvania Downtown Center.
