Today is the last day to get your application in if you want a mail-in ballot for the upcoming general election.
The deadline to register for a mail-in ballot is 5:00 today. Voters have two options to apply for a mail-in ballot. They can register online at votespa.com and wait for a ballot to be mailed, or they can apply in person for a mail-in ballot at the county election office in the Indiana County Courthouse. Acting Secretary of State Veronica Degraffenreid said in a news release that there is an advantage to applying in person. That is just waiting a few minutes for a voter’s status to be verified and receiving their ballot instantly. If they so choose, voters can also cast their ballot immediately during their visit to the county election office.
Voters are reminded that as soon as they get their ballot, they are to read over the directions carefully then mark the ballot. After that, seal the ballot in the secrecy envelope that says “official election ballot”. Put that envelope in the pre-addressed outer return envelope, and complete the voter declaration on the outer envelope by signing and dating it. The ballot must be enclosed in both envelopes or it will not count.
After sealing the outer return envelope, get a stamp for it and put it in the mail, or drop the ballot off at either the election office or the drop box at the courthouse between 8-4 Monday through Friday. Ballots are due to the courthouse by the close of the polls, 8:00 PM on November 2nd.
