With the Steelers having had the week off, the focus on football this weekend was on the college game, and with mixed results.
IUP’s disastrous fourth quarter against Cal U. resulted in a 38-34 loss to the Vulcans, while Pitt put up an inspired effort in a 27-17 win over Clemson. And then there’s Penn State’s weird nine-overtime two-point conversion war which resulted in a loss to Illinois.
For IUP, the focus turns to the final three games of the regular season, at home this Saturday against Edinboro, then on the road at Seton Hill on November 6th and at West Chester on November 13th.
Jack Benedict and Coach Paul Tortorella will talk IUP football tonight during Hawk Talk at the CH Fields Craft Kitchen at the Hilton Garden Inn at 6 o’clock on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 YouTube channel, which you can access via the U92 Facebook page.
For number-17 ranked Pitt and coach Pat Narduzzi, there’s another stiff challenge this week against Miami. The Hurricanes are only 3-4 this season, but they upset 18-ranked North Carolina State, 31-30 on Saturday. Hurricanes coach Manny Diaz says Pitt is playing as well as any team in the country right now.
After suffering their second loss of the season on Saturday in a mind-numbing nine overtimes to Illinois using the NCAA’s new – and very much criticized overtime format – Penn State travels to Maryland this week. The Nittany Lions fell from 7th in the nation to 20th in the latest rankings.
