NFL vice president of broadcast planning Mike North said in a media conference call yesterday that the league didn’t intentionally plan to backload the Steelers’ schedule with division games this season, but said the league doesn’t consider it to be unfair. Not only do the Steelers not face a division foe until Week 11, they must play at top rival Baltimore on December 21st, then turn around and play four days later against two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City.
With all of the Steelers’ six division games coming in the last eight weeks, North said it was something the league will look at in the future, “but not necessarily as a disqualifier.”
The Chicago Bears’ schedule also has no division opponents until Week 11.
