CROSS COUNTRY
At the Heritage Conference cross country championships yesterday at Marion Center, both the Stingers girls and boys kept their winning streaks going. In the boys Marion Center won their fifth straight championship with Cambria Heights getting second. Tim Barrett of Marion Center won the individual title.
The girls team race was won by Marion Center with Portage getting second. Lauren Shaffer of Portage won the individual title. The Stingers girls have not lost a Heritage Conference race since 2010.
VOLLEYBALL
Marion Center downed Punxsutawney 3 sets to 1 yesterday, winning the first two, dropping the third, and winning the fourth, 25-15. The Stingers are 11-4.
Shawna Cook had 20 kills, Kaelee Elkin had 14, and Adison Gromley had eight. Abbey Smulik recorded 43 assists and Maggie Shadle had 16 digs, Tori Gearhart had six digs. Allison Semetkoskey had five blocks.
Marion Center will play in the Heritage Conference semifinals on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at the KCAC and District 6 playoffs on Thursday, Oct. 28, location to be determined.
Marion Center also won the JV match 2-0.
Indiana defeated Kiski, 3-1, at an away section match.
Emily Madey had 30 assists and 14 digs. Audrey Josephson had 17 assists. Mia Ciocca had 13 kills and three blocks. Peyton Ream had 10 kills, nine digs, and three blocks. Maycie Lorelli had 10 kills and three blocks. Lizzy Lubold had nine kills, four blocks, and three aces. Abbie Huey nine kills and three aces. Katie Kovalchick had five blocks. Lauren Brocious had 18 digs. Lily Cunningham and Alex Ball had 17 digs and 13 digs, respectively.
Indiana JV also won their match, 2-1.
