FIELD HOCKEY
Sophomore Carly Fordham scored a pair of goals as the IUP field hockey team got back in the win column with a 4-1 non-conference road win over Frostburg State last night. Blaise Cugini and Rory Cahill had the other IUP goals.
The win broke a two-game losing streak and kept the Hawks in playoff contention. They’re currently tied with Mansfield for the sixth and final playoff spot, with Mansfield holding the tiebreaker. IUP has a tough road ahead, with the two top teams in the PSAC, Shippensburg and Mercyhurst, next on the schedule, followed by the season finale against Kutztown.
SOCCER
The IUP women’s soccer team lost to Gannon, 2-0. IUP is still holding a tenuous grip on the fourth and final spot in the division at 19 points with a 6-4-1 record. IUP is 7-4-1 overall.
The Crimson Hawks have five matches remaining over the next two-and-a-half weeks but it’s a favorable schedule, with their opponents a combined 24-28-5 in their division. Saturday’s opponent, however, is Slippery Rock, which is second in the division with 25 points and has an 8-3-1 league record.
