The Pirates built a big lead on a career night for Bryan Reynolds, but had to hold off the hard-charging Brewers last night to open their road trip. Joe Block has the recap on a wild Bucco win.
Manager Derek Shelton says the Pirates brought their bats last night.
Shelton says Reynolds, who had five hits, showed what he can do with a bat in his hands.
Shelton liked the approach Jack Suwinski took at the plate.
The skipper knows he has a stopper in Mitch Keller.
With Paul Skenes joining the Pirates, Shelton is going with a six-man rotation, for now. It could be short term or longer. Shelton says he will re-evaluate after the Pirates’ next series, at Chicago. That will complete a ten-game stretch with no days off, but after a day of rest, they will play six games, get another day off, then get Memorial Day off, play two and get another day off, and play three and yet another day off. That will make four days off in a 15-day span.
