IUP may have clobbered the number six team in the nation last week, but it gained very little traction in the AFCA Top 25 poll released yesterday.
After winning on the road at Slippery Rock, 48-21, the Crimson Hawks only moved from number 26 to number 23. Slippery Rock dropped to number 17, while IUP’s opponent this Saturday, Cal U, climbed from number 13 to number 5. Other PSAC teams in the poll include Shepherd, at number 11, and Kutztown, sitting at number 25.
On Hawk Talk on WQMU from the Hilton Garden Inn last night, IUP head coach Paul Tortorella said Cal U is a legitimate Top Ten team.

Saturday’s game at Miller Stadium will mark the fourth time in the 12-year history of The Coal Bowl in which both IUP and Cal are nationally ranked (2012, 2016, and 2017).
IUP swept the PSAC West Athletes of the Week this week. Quarterback Harry Woodbery is offensive player of the week after a 23-of-36 performance for 312 yards and five touchdown passes. Safety Charles Ingram is the defensive player of the week after intercepting two passes, and kicker Tyler Luther is the special teams player of the week for kicking two 24-yard field goals and all six extra point attempts.
